School of Architecture students have been instrumental in Carnegie Mellon’s annual Lunar Gala fashion show, and this year is no exception. The 2020 show, ‘Yesterday’, is Co-Produced by B.Arch fifth-year Michael Powell, and the Design Coordinator is B.Arch fourth-year Vincent DeRienzo. A number of the design teams include SoA students as well. Powell and DeRienzo were recently featured in a TribLive article about local Pittsburgh fashion experts assisting Carnegie Mellon’s ‘Lunar Gala’ student designers.

“It’s an event where all of the majors come together,” said Powell, who is co-producing the show with Ugne Ziausyte.

Yesterday explores the liminal space between here and there, then and now, yesterday and today. Does our distorted memory of the past alter the events of the present? For the 24th annual show, Lunar Gala reflects on its history and reimagines the future.
DeRienzo said the fashion show is a wonderful diversion from the everyday stress of classes. “We’ve become like family,” he said. “It is up to us to carry the torch and keep the show going.” The students have started a crowdfunding campaign to support the student designers in funding their work. A limited number of tickets are still available for the show, which takes place Saturday 29 February at 8:00pm in the Wiegand Gymnasium on the CMU campus.
