The Luther S. Lashmit and Louis F. Valentour Traveling Scholarships support international travel and research under the guidance of a faculty advisor for students with one or more years remaining in their degree program.

Carnegie Mellon Architecture will announce the call for applications for the next award cycle in the fall of 2025.

Mission

The Luther S. Lashmit and Louis F. Valentour Traveling Scholarships support international travel and research. The recipient prepares a proposal under the guidance of a faculty advisor. Travel award winners must submit complete travel proposals following their selection and are required to receive proposal approval prior to the distribution of funds.

Evaluation Criteria

To be considered for the Luther S. Lashmit and Louis F. Valentour Traveling Scholarships, applicants must submit a complete application that includes the following information:

  • Travel proposal statement (200 word maximum) on how the travel will enhance your architectural education. For example, studying an architect’s work, a specific building typology, or construction technique.
  • One-page travel budget
  • One-page travel schedule
  • Name(s) of faculty you are considering having as your advisor

Eligibility & Schedule

The Luther S. Lashmit and Louis F. Valentour Traveling Scholarships are open to all students with one (1) or more years remaining in their degree program (undergraduate, master's and PhD).
